THE annual Guy Fawkes Carnival took place in Northlew last Friday and was well supported, despite wet weather.

The evening, which is organised by the Northlew Silver Band members, began in the Victory Hall with the judging of the fancy dress classes. A high standard led to difficult decisions for the judges.

The band and the Rev Ruth Hansford then led the procession around the village, ending up back at the bonfire in the square. Despite the rain, the crowds stayed out to watch the bonfire roar into life. Refreshments were served in the churchroom by band members and friends.

Thanks were expressed to the band for keeping the carnival tradition going.
