THE PITCH at Callington Town Football Club promises to be better than ever this season thanks to a £500 donation from the Co-op.

The award will be used by the club, which runs three adult and eleven junior sides, towards a pitch grass-cutting machine to improve its Marshfield Parc stadium.

Club chairman Andrew Long said: ?We are grateful to the Co-op for this kind donation which will help Callington Town and our sister club Callington Colts have the best possible playing surface this season.

?We are truly a community club and are glad that the Co-op has recognised our hard work over the past 15 years.?

The donation comes from the Co-op?s Community Dividend Fund, part of the customer loyalty scheme which allows shoppers to donate the extra pence in their twice-yearly dividend payouts to worthy causes.

More than £150,000 was distributed to good causes in the South West last year and the Co-op expects a similar sum to be distributed in 2004. Local groups are urged to apply for an award and application forms can be picked up in stores.
