Mannamead 2 Okehampton Columbines 5 OKEHAMPTON hockey team got off to a flying start when Jo Moppett?s strike from an early short corner was deflected in by Viv Weatherington. A short while later, Moppett put Okehampton two goals up when the ball fell to her in the circle and she squeezed it past the outcoming goalkeeper to see it trickle over the line. With Okehampton easily outrunning and outplaying Mannamead, maybe some complacency set in when Mannamead scored with a shot from the edge of the circle. Good passing and forward movement soon got Columbines back into their rhythm. Nettie Collett distributed the ball wide from the middle to find Jo Stephens in space down the right. She ran down the wing and her stunning shot gave the goalie no chance, to put Columbines 3-1 ahead. All the Okehampton team worked hard. Alex Collins let little go past her down the left and her counterpart, Debbie Pritchard, on the right, dealt superbly with any Mannamead attack. The midfield were strong in support of their forwards with the team playing quick flowing hockey. Their next goal came from an individual effort from Moppett who somehow managed to come from an acute angle after a powerful run into the circle. The second half produced the chances but somehow not the goals. The final goal for the Columbines came from another short corner which was hit by Sue Stanbury into the corner of the goal. Mannamead did score another just before the end somewhat fortuitously when the ball rose and spun into the goal without either team really knowing where it had gone. It was a good display by Okehampton who are at home this week to Liskeard/Looe.
