VISITORS to Tavistock Library can mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain by building a model Spitfire at a workshop on Saturday, September 18.
The event is free, with glue, paints and model kits all provided, making this the perfect activity for children aged 7 or above. Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.
Booking is required, for a maximum of ten participants, and tickets are available at the library counter.
There will also be a model Spitfire competition open to children of all ages, with judging taking place on Saturday, September 25 at 1pm.
Entries can be made from commercial model kits — in conjunction with this event, discounted kits are available at Games and Computers, 23 Market Street, Tavistock, tel: 01822 616288 — or from any craft materials store/shop.
Completed models should not exceed 30cm x 30cm, and can be submitted to the library between Wednesday, September 1, and noon on Saturday, September 25.
Entry is free, and prizes, donated by Airfix; Games and Computers, and the Friends of Tavistock Library, will be awarded for both commercial kit and craft material categories.
Both this competition and the above workshop have been organised by Darryl Harrison, in partnership with Airfix; Games and Computers.
l Those who appreciate crime fiction and creative writing are welcome on Saturday, September 11 at 10am, when Tavistock Library hosts a book signing with local crime fiction writer Margaret Duffy, who, with the assistance of Vanni Cook, will be offering one-to-one writing sessions.
Attendance is free, and booking is essential as places for one-to-one sessions are limited.
There will be 'Knit and Natter' afternoons on Saturday, September 18, October 16, and November 20, from 2pm to 3.30pm.
The events are free with no bookings required, and open to anyone who wants to knit and chat with others. Refreshments will be available to all.
