TIN hats, peaked caps, old fashioned cases and clothes added authenticity when the children in Class 2 of Exbourne Primary School spent a day returning to the time of world war two last Tuesday, Armistice Day.
The children came to school dressed as characters from the war, including ARP wardens, soldiers, evacuees and land girls, and led assembly before taking part in various activities.
In the morning they looked at rationing and the food and recipes of the time, with the cheese pudding they made not looking appetising but tasting better than it looked. Carrot cookies were also made and 1940s games were played.
In the afternoon the pupils looked at shelters and redesigned the Anderson shelter, making models of their final ideas, which were planned to be more user friendly and comfortable.
