OKEHAMPTON fire crew rescued a woman trapped in a vehicle following an accident in Moyes Meadow, Okehampton, on Sunday afternoon.

The crew were called after the vehicle left the road and drove into two front garden of a roadside property. The gardens in Moyes Meadow slope away from the houses and the front end of the car was suspended in the air. It had to be jacked up by the crew for stability.

Firefighters then cut the woman out of the vehicle and she was taken by air ambulance to Exeter Hospital with suspected neck and back injuries.

The air ambulance helicopter landed in an adjacent field and the woman was ferried between the scene and the waiting helicopter by land ambulance.

Station officer Ian Donovan said it had been a ?delicate? operation, which took around an hour in total and required the road to be closed.
