CHIP pan and road traffic accident recovery demonstrations will be held at an open day at Hatherleigh Fire Station to give people a chance to meet the crew and see how they respond to emergency simulations. Aside from the serious message of the demonstrations, there will be a range of fun activities on offer, including stalls, games, a duck race and a barbecue. The fun day gets underway this Saturday (July 30) from 1pm onwards. Firefighter Owen Ravenscroft said the turntable ladder from Barnstaple and a community fire safety team would be on hand throughout the afternoon. There will also be skittles, a bouncy castle and a beat the goalie competition to keep youngsters entertained. All proceeds from the event will go towards the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund, which helps ill and injured firefighters back on the road to recovery.
