FIREFIGHTERS from Okehampton were called to Bridestowe on Saturday afternoon, after reports that an electricity pole was on fire.
On arrival at the scene, the crew, led by Watch Commander Harnell, found the pole was snapped around a third of the way down, due to a fire inside it.
Western Power were alerted to the incident and the area was cordoned off as a safety precaution, although nearby properties were not considered to be in any immediate danger.
The firefighters remained in the area on standby on the request of Western Power engineers, who dealt with the damaged pole.
