LOCAL author Ted Sherrell will be signing copies of his latest novel ?Fire and the Phoenix? at Tavistock Library on Thursday June 23 from 10am. The book is set in the Tavistock and West Devon areas and follows the fortunes of a long established (fictional) farming family who, along with so many others in Devon, were victims of the foot and mouth crisis of recent times. This powerful novel charts their attempts to overcome this disaster, along with so many of the other setbacks and problems which have afflicted the farming community during the past decade and more. It shows the traumatic cost to the family in all aspects of life and their first steps forward, eventually, into more positive and, hopefully, settled and successful times.
