BUCKLAND Horse and Dog Show went ahead on Sunday May 11 in glorious sunshine. The jumping classes were very well attended with one class having 30 competitors. The standard was high with some exciting jump-offs against the clock. The showing classes were also well supported with some beautifully turned out horses and riders. As a new event this year the organiser, Pauline Bloomfield, decided to let the dogs take some of the limelight. Two classes were held in the clear round ring, the first being one round over the jumps and against the clock. This was fiercely fought out with many falls from the humans! The second class was a puissance with 16 dogs entered. Again this was a great competition with the jump getting to heights most horses would look twice at. The winner, a Dalmatian called Otis owned by Leigh Frazer, cleared 3ft 9ins with ease. Tori, a Border Collie came second, clearing the same height at the second attempt. With a running commentary at ringside these classes proved to be 'highly' entertaining. The show raised enough money to be able to donate £1,000 to charity. Pauline Bloomfield said: 'The day went like a dream, it all just fell into place. It was lovely to see so many people having such a good time.' The show is being planned already for next year with Sunday, May 17, 2009 being the date.
