A SUMMER fete held at The Plymouth Inn, Okehampton, raised £424 for registered marine conservation charity, Sea Shepherd UK.
Organisers of the fete raised money by selling home baked cakes, face painting, kids sea-life temporary tattoos and much more. The fete also included a whole host of games and competitions.
The recycled rubbish competition was won by Isla Barton who created a fantastic robot costume out of recycled materials.
Visitors were also entertained by Nigel Dominey who was brave enough to have a full chest and leg wax to help with the fundraiser.
The money raised will go towards charity Sea Shepherd UK, which has a mission to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife around the UK’s coastline.
The summer fete also aimed to raise awareness of The Source to Sea Challenge which takes place on Wednesday, August 24.
The challenge will see six volunteers travel the length of the UK’s longest river in order to raise sufficient funds for Sea Shepherd UK to replace one of its aged rigid inflatable boats.
A Sea Shepherd UK spokesperson said that the boat which needs replacing is a 14-year-old boat named Joker, which had been utilised on many campaigns, but most recently had been put to use defending seals off the coast of Scotland.
The campaign, which has been running for the last two years, has been instrumental in saving dozens of seals as well as countless protected sea birds.
