THE Dartmoor Festival got off to a good start on Friday with a feast and the unveiling of the new parish map. The event was held at the Dartmoor Inn at Lydford, with music provided by the Beer Hunters ? Graham Crocker, Bob Cooke and Sam Cooper ? and entertainment by the Wag from Widecombe, Tony Beard. The map was researched by the joint owner of the inn, Karen Burgess, and artwork was by Jenny Peach. It depicts the green fields of the parish where Ruby Red cattle of Devon grazed, with the original names of the fields from the 1800s. Artist Alan Cracknell and potter Laurel Keeley have produced works in relation to the map for exhibition, adding to the festival of art, craft, food and music. This Friday, September 8, will see a gourmet and music evening with the Dartmoor Pixie Band, with step and broom dancing. There will be a set festival lunch throughout September, and from September 23 to October 8 there will be the Best of British food, including bangers and mash.
