Heather Fell, Olympic modern pentathlete silver medalist, writes about her life 'on and off' the track.
IT is nearly home time, just three sessions to go before heading back to the UK, although I do think we've timed it slightly wrong.
Having been out in France for all of Wimbledon with no BBC iplayer or Eurosport to watch it on and missing the Henley Regatta, now as we head home the Tour De France is just beginning! To top it off I gather you have been basking in delightful sunshine back in Devon, which apparently is supposed to disappear the day we land.
On the plus side the training has been great and I have to remember that that is actually what it's about. The second week consisted of a little less running but it was balanced out by extra fencing thanks to the sparring partners from Hungary and the Czech Republic. The only down side is that I'm sporting a few extra bruises down my right leg.
As a squad we all get on very well but after two weeks living out of each other's pockets it can be healthy to have a little space. It was a lovely coincidence to find that one of the GB track athletes training here in Font Romeu was a runner from Cornwall who I know through my 'Team Gregory' sponsorship. It turned into a great opportunity to make a new friend whilst escaping the confines of our camp for an afternoon at the natural sulphur baths further down the mountain.
As a result of my world cup results earlier this season I qualified for the World Cup Final being held this Sunday. It's being used as modern pentathlon's Olympic test event even though the venues aren't yet completed; therefore the fencing and swimming are to be held at Crystal Palace with the other events at the 2012 site, Greenwich Park. This will be a great chance to get a taster for what I really hope to be a part of next year.
