BACK-to-back housing with no green areas for play and recreation is what the community fears could lay ahead for Okehampton if West Devon Borough Council presses ahead with its current Draft Local Plan, claims a county councillor.
Devon County Council member Coleen Herriman says she was very disappointed to see no green areas designated in the plan which had proposed a number of 'high density' housing developments.
Eight hundred new homes are proposed for the town over the next ten years but residents have major concerns that the infrastructure will not be in place to accommodate the newcomers.
Cllr Herriman is campaigning for decent sized open green fields to provide proper play and recreation for all residents.
'It is no good just looking at the housing development in Okehampton and nothing else,' she said. 'The borough council is setting up serious difficulties for itself in the future if it does not look at the infrastructure.
'If Okehampton is to be in a position to absorb and accommodate its new residents easily now is the time to be consulting on the placement of extra all-important sports facilities.'
