A CHRISTENING in triplicate took place at Chagford Parish Church recently when four-month-old Lauren Northway was joined by her mother and grandmother.

Two weeks before his retirement, Reverend Louis Baycock had the pleasure of baptising three generations of the same family.

Kathy Northway, 27, of Chagford and her mother Mary Palfreman, 62, from Bovey Tracey had always liked the idea of being christened but had never taken the plunge so when Lauren's big day came they decided to make it a family occasion.

'It was still very much my daughter's day — we did not want the glory taken away from her but it was nice to all be christened together,' said Kathy.

The family were keen to have Reverend Baycock officiate the ceremony after he married Kathy and her husband Peter in 1997.

'Reverend Baycock has not been well but he came back to work during January before his retirement so he managed to fit us in.

'He's such a lovely and down-to-earth vicar and we really wanted him to do the christening.'

The vicar said he had only ever performed a christening like this once before in his 34-year career.

'It is quite rare but one of those lovely occasions,' he said.
