FOR the second year in a row the players of Tavistock Thistles U16s have been awarded a trophy for fair play. Despite not always getting what they deserved from games the players were always gracious in defeat, the same of which could not always be said of some of the opposition they faced. The team as a whole improved over the season reducing the goals conceded and improving the goals scored per game with a large proportion of the games only being lost by the odd goal, they also narrowly lost 3-2 in the Rodney League Cup semi final but there efforts where rewarded when they collected the Stafford Williams Sporting Cup. Those able to attend were treated to a meal at Pizza Hut by the club and on the whole it was a nice way to round off the season. The players are now preparing for the forthcoming season as U18s and anyone who will be under 18 on August 31 is welcome to come to training which takes place at the pitches at Crowndale on a Wednesday evening between 6-7pm. The team has two qualified FA Level 1 coaches, one of whom is part way through getting his FA Level 2 coaching badge and are looking to strengthen the squad with one or two more players. Matches next season will be played on Sundays.
