A REVAMP costing in the region of £20,000 is expected to be given to one of the town hall rooms, to make it attractive as a conference facility and multi-functional space.

Tavistock Town Council's Finance and General Purposes Committee has made a recommendation to the full council to allocate the money for the refurbishment of the Rundle Room in order to maximise its commercial and community opportunities.

Cllr Brian Trew said the room was currently dingy, with no IT facilities and no decent projector screen.

'You could run basic courses here at the moment here but not high level ones,' he said.

'I believe if we attack the Rundle Room in the right way so it is an attractive place for people to go for a professional presentation then the expense is justifiable.'

Cllr Harry Smith said there was a great deal of potential with the Rundle Room.

He said: 'If we update it we will get a lot more use out of it.

'It is currently the weak link in the whole place. It is dowdy and does not work as a conference room or anything else at the moment.'

The full council was due to ratify the committee's recommendation at its meeting on Tuesday evening.
