I WISH to congratulate Mr Sansom's letter from last week's Times. It was spot on! But next to his letter was one from Mr Broughton praising a letter from Mr Ian Gasper the week before. These two gentlemen must belong to the Liberal/Left wing Amnesia Society. One doesn't have to have a good memory to recount the last Labour Government's disasters for our country. There is not enough room on your letters page to list all but a few. First, Blair's involving us in an illegal war so that he could strut his stuff with Bush on the world stage, then opening our borders to all with unlimited immigration (were you asked?). Then how about all the PFI expenditure, which our grandchildren will still be paying in 30 - 40 years time, and selling off our gold when the price was at its lowest, then ignoring what was going on in some Midlands schools until the damage had been done. Then we had Gordon Brown turning a blind eye to what our banks were up to. It does seem that all our leaders right, left or centre, have had extracted from them (as they climb the greasy pole) all common sense, back bone, long-term planning for the good of the country and last of all some pride in the UK. I despair for my children. D P Hunter Tavistock
