A GROUP of Explorer Scouts from the Tavistock area have completed a year of fundraising for CLIC Sargent as part of their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
A group volunteering section has been introduced to the award scheme and the Explorers decided to take up the challenge of supporting and fundraising for the charity. They have run a 100 Club, which continues until the end of this year, held cake sales during breaks at Tavistock College, table-top sales, a quiz night and have supported CLIC Sargent, the cancer charity, which held events around the county.
Chris Judd, Harrison Short, Reuben Grice, Tom Rodgers, Laurie Chaplin, Ed Carr, Laura Rogers, Tom Ludwig, Adam Browner and Luke Hilton-Pierce are members of Mid Devon Explorers and Lucinda Grice is a member of GirlGuidingUK. Two other group members, David Corrales and Sally Grice completed their voluntary work by assisting in local residential homes.
Members of the group are shown at a meeting with area CLIC Sargent organiser Alison Ramsey where they presented their final cheque of £ 2,096.79, together with Tony Johnson, Mid Devon district commissioner and Colin Grice, Duke of Edinburgh Award and Mid Devon Explorer Leader.
