THE mysteries of the ancient National Trust estate of Cotehele will soon be unraveled by historical experts. During November 4 and 5 experts will delve into the various aspects of Cotehele?s history ? from the natural and industrial to the lives of the people who once lived there. Rachel Hunt, National Trust house and collections manager at Cotehele, said: ?This weekend will deepen our knowledge of the furniture, the house itself and the estate beyond, and it is a pleasure to share this unique opportunity with others. ?The group size is being kept small, so that our delegates can enjoy more interaction with the experts.? Visitors will have the chance to help unravel the history with four sessions, each running for a morning and afternoon. Victor Chinnery, a consultant from Oak Furniture, will be looking at some of the estate?s collection, and show visitors that antique furniture is not always what it seems. Eric Berry, historic buildings consultant, will conduct a tour of Cotehele, during which he will explain how the outcomes of the recent building analysis portrayed the history of the estate in a completely new light. The previous property manager at Cotehele, Lewis Eynon, and head gardener Dave Bouch will help visitors find out more about Caroline Edgecumbe née Fielding, who spent her widowhood at the estate from the 1860s. Joe Lawrence, area warden, and Jamie Lang, Cotehele warden, will lead guests on a walk exploring the natural and industrial heritage of Cotehele and Danescombe Valley.
