ONE of the UK?s leading chamber choirs will be holding its annual festival in Tavistock next week. The Exon Singers can often be heard on BBC Radios 3 and 4 and on CD, including a disc of world premiere recordings of music by Francis Jackson, and a first recording of a reconstruction of Vespers by Tomás Luis de Victoria. Under the direction of Matthew Owens, the choir has received considerable acclaim for the commissioning of new works from some of the today?s most exciting composers ? Richard Allain, David Briggs, Grayston Ives, Francis Jackson, Gabriel Jackson and George Lloyd. The summer festival runs from July 24 to 29. The opening performance will be an organ recital including pieces by Bach, Mendelssohn and Vierne in Tavistock Parish Church at 7.30pm on Tuesday July 24. There will be evening concerts in the church every day until Saturday inclusive, plus a programme of lunchtime recitals on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. ?Compline by Candlelight? events will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9pm. On Friday July 27 at 4pm, choral evening prayer will be recorded at Buckfast Abbey, to be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 at 4pm on Sunday July 29.
