Chairman's XI v Whitchurch Wayfarers
A CLOSELY fought game saw the end of another season for Whitchurch.
The club side moved forward at a steady rate of four runs per over while quick wickets fell.
Hall and Reeves fell early to the accurate bowling of Nand-Lal (18-4). Batting higher than normal Trembath (21) scored quickly and mainly in boundaries surprising team members as well as himself. He and Billy Barriball took the score from 42-4 to 93-4 at the half way stage.
After that, Billy watched partners come and go as Daymond (27-2) and Towl (24-3) wrested back some control to the Chairman's XI.
A quick fire 13 from father Nigel saw Billy and Nigel make a final partnership of 37. Their quick running between the wickets showed what could be achieved.
A final score of 168 was a challenge on a low, slow track.
In reply the Chairman's XI found it hard to score from the start. Heatley (31-2) and, particularly, Nigel Barriball (6-1 off 8 overs) pinned down the early batsmen.
Northey made a patient 13 but it was the precious wicket of Gray well caught by Credicott that was particularly prized.
In the end the innings revolved around Daymond (67).
Ably supported by Alford and with 10 fours and three sixes he turned the game round and with 34 needed off the last four overs the club side were clearly worried.
Clubman of the year, Heatley, came back into the attack and bowled Daymond and that was that.
Both sides had contributed to an enthralling contest.
