ARTISTS from across the South West are making exciting plans for what will be one of the largest celebrations of its kind as South West Arts annouces its Year of the Artist residencies.
The Stone Universe residency which is designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dartmoor National Park, has been awarded £5,900.
This is a photography, poetry, music and digital art residency on Dartmoor linking the ages from prehistory to the new millennium as the reference point. This will ultimately lead to an exhibition and a publication.
Year of the Artist is a ground breaking project to encourage people to think again about the role of arts in our everyday lives. During the year £750,000 will fund 100 artists who will be working in new and unusual places to bring art to the people of the South West.
'Year of the Artist will be a wonderful opportunity for artists in the region to bring their work closer to a broader cross-section of the people of the South West' said SWA chief executive Nick Capaldi.
He said it was a celebration of artistic creativity and individuality with work ranging 'from the quirky and irreverent to the moving and the profound.'
