OKEHAMPTON Excelsior Silver Band will again be entertaining German crowds, when its musicians travel to Wesseling at the end of June for a six-day visit to the German town twinned with West Devon. This will be the band's fifth visit over the last 20 years — and will return the visit the Wesseling band paid to Okehampton in 2003. The Okehampton musicians and their families will be guests of Wesseling town and will take part in its festival. The band will return home in time to take part in the Simmons Park centenary celebrations. They will also be leading the parade at the Okehampton civic service on June 10. Recently, the band performed at Lustleigh Mayday, at the Rotary May fair in Simmons Park, and in their Spring Concert, where they entertained an audience of more than 100 with marches, brass band favourites, and music from the shows, raising £350 for Breast Cancer Research. In view of their busy schedule, the band requests that any organisation that would like them to play at an event should make early enquiries. They are also always keen to hear from any new players of brass instruments who might be interested in joining the band.
