A BERE Alston woman has been successful in passing the National Examination for Dental Nurses.
Corrina Daymond, who has been working at Abbey Mead Dental Practice and Implant Centre in Tavistock since 2004, enrolled on the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses Course at Plymouth University in 2007.
The pass means that she will now become registered with the General Dental Council on the Register of Dental Care Professionals following in the footsteps of colleagues Suzanne Shone, Teresa Ford and Christine Hartley.
Corrina was funded entirely by Abbey Mead Dental Practice and attended University on a day release basis.
Her mentoring, coaching and clinical training was supervised at the practice by Dr Ann Cummins and Dr John Patrick McVeigh.
Corrina, who lives with her husband and two young children Sophie, two, and Adam, one, said: 'I really enjoyed the course and feel I have learned valuable lessons in the role of dental nurse.'
Dr Cummins, dentist and Corrina's employer, said: 'We are all very proud of Corrina. She has shown true dedication.
'She's had to juggle the delicate balance of the role of mother to young children, a professional job and has still been motivated to make time to revise and pass her exams. She is a most reliable and conscientious member of staff. She had her second child and maternity leave but still attended the course in the midst of it all!'
Corrina, always keen for a challenge, is now eager to gain more experience and would like to complete an oral health educator course.
Corrina follows in the recent success of Dr McVeigh, who was one of the first dentists in the country to gain membership of the Joint Dental Faculties Royal College of Surgeons UK (MJDF RCS(UK)) and also gain membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practice Royal College of Surgeons UK (MFGDP RCS(UK)).
