THE New Year has seen a number of successful fundraising events being held at the Winsford Trust at Halwill Junction.

Almost £400 was raised at a coffee afternoon on February 15, when the pennies in ?Ashley?s whiskey bottle? were counted and came to a grand total of £218.

Members of the lunch club last Thursday held a ?knit in? for the North Devon Hospice and hope the final total will equal or pass last year?s sponsorship total, which came to £164.11.

And Judith Anstey is hard in training for a new marathon challenge for the Winsford Trust this year.

Sandra Willetts of the trust, said: ?Last year she ran in the London Marathon and raised £1,017. This year she will be competing in the Paris Marathon on april 6 and is hoping to reduce her previous time but increase her fundraising.?

Sandra said sponsorship forms for Judith?s marathon run had been distributed in the neighbourhood and she hoped residents would support her athletic challenge.

She reminded taxpayers to state their status on the sponsor form, enabling the Winsford Trust to claim an extra 28p from the Inland Revenue for every £1 donated.
