THERE?S a full weekend of fun activities ahead for families in the Okehampton area this week. Saturday sees the return of the popular Elf Fair to Hatherleigh. This year?s event will feature a new children?s ?play till you drop? area, animals from Exmoor zoo, and heavy horses whose manes can be plaited. The day will also include demonstrations by Arab stallions, a dog show, archery competition,casting contest, ferret racing, and a gun dog scurry ? as well as various stalls to browse and a plant sale. The event is held at the Old Station House, Hatherleigh, from 10.30am until 6pm ? entrance is £3, but free for children under 12. On Sunday, Okehampton hosts its first donkey derby, when the Lions Club brings a team of racing donkeys to the town. With several races to watch, donkey and pony rides, and over 30 stalls, it too promises to be fun for all the family. The races will be held in Simmons Park from 1pm until approximately 5pm ? admission is free.
