A COUPLE from the Bere Peninsula who set out on a mammoth 3,000 mile kayaking trip around Great Britain and Ireland in April this year are on the final leg of their huge journey.
Jane and Andy Morton have been paddling their kayak, Persey, day in, day out, on the journey, camping overnight in a small two-man tent.
They are raising money for two charities during the trip, the RNLI and the Merlin MS Centre, which provides support for Multple Sclerosis sufferers and their families. This is a cause close to Jane's heart, whose father, Derek, died from the condition.
The couple say they have been overwhelmed by the support they have been met with throughout their long trip, and thank everone for their support.
The journey is scheduled to finish on the evening tide at Bere Ferrers on Monday, August 26, when they hope to land around 7pm.
Anyone wishing to be there to celebrate the couple's homecoming is welcome to come along — The Olde Plough at Bere Ferrers is staging a curry night, part of the proceeds of which will be donated to the two charities.
