THERE's an opportunity to enjoy live music and possibly win a great prize at a special charity dance taking place in Tavistock next week.

The event, being held at The Tavy Club, is being organised by Tavistock resident Derek Stephens, who aims to raise funds for local cancer charity The Mustard Tree Foundation.

Derek's daughter Tracy Lees was diagnosed with leukaemia last year, and the Tavistock branch of The Mustard Tree has been invaluable to her and her family.

Tracy said: 'They don't just support the person who's ill, they support the whole family.

'They help with everything, financial, emotional, practical — they've been a massive support to me.

'They can help out with all sorts of things — even to supplying wigs.

'A wig with real hair can cost £400, even synthetic ones are expensive, but they can give you money towards them, they help with make up, because you can lose your eyebrows as well from the treatment, and your skin can be very sensitive.

'They have been fantastic.'

The dance night at The Tavy Club will include live music from 'Just Good Friends' and a raffle including some great prizes.

The event takes place on Saturday, September 10, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 each and are available on the door.

There will also be a quiz night at The Leaping Salmon in Horrabridge on Monday September 12 at 8pm, with proceeds also going to The Mustard Tree.
