DARTMOOR National Park Authority is running some special events for Heritage Open Days from today (Thursday) until Sunday.
Today from 2pm to 4pm and again on Saturday from 10.30am to 12.30pm visitors can view some of Dartmoor's most important 19th century industrial archaeological remains, including the unique china clay works at Shaugh Bridge, with its settling pits, tanks and drying kilns.
The walk will also visit the remains of the Dewerstone Iron Mine and the Ferro Ceramic Mine works where bricks and tiles were produced.
Both the Bellever and Shaugh events have limited spaces and booking is essential on 01822 890414.
In West Devon on Sunday, from 2pm to 5pm, there will be the chance to explore Bellever, in the heart of the moor, visiting prehistoric sites — including a round house very recently excavated.
Visitors can also meet and find out about the Dartmoor pony and the work of the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust from its manager.
The visit includes easy walking along forest tracks. Call 01822 890414 to book.
Details of more events are available at the authority's website at http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk">www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk or at http://www.heritageopendays.org.uk">www.heritageopendays.org.uk
