OKEHAMPTON's Charter Hall is the venue for a New Year's Eve Acoustic Café, next Monday December 31, from 8.30pm to 12.30am, courtesy of Devon's folk arts development organisation Wren Music. The Acoustic Café is a concept becoming popular across Devon, bringing an informal evening of music and song for all the family right into the heart of local communities. The evening will feature folk duo Marilyn Tucker and Paul Wilson and guests, and there will be opportunities for musicians and singers who wish to perform. Marilyn and Paul are two of Devon's leading folk artists, and are Wren Music's founders. In their many years of professional experience, the singing duo have performed at a staggering number and variety of venues ranging from London's Royal Festival Hall, festivals and clubs across the country, to a small-hall concert for a fishing co-op on the shores of Newfoundland, always finding the right songs for each occasion. There will be an optional fancy dress theme —all are invited to come as a character from a children's book. Entry is £12 for adults and £5 for under 16s, and includes a finger buffet. There will be no bar, so people should bring their own drinks and glasses. Advance booking is advisable. Tickets are available by calling Wren on 01837 53754. Tickets will also be available on the door on the night.
