ENGLAND won the World Cup during an exciting football tournament which saw them triumph over the combined ranks of Germany, Argentina and Poland. The action was taking place not in Germany but in Simmons Park, Okehampton, during the recent half-term. The children, aged between six and 14, all attended a World Cup football camp organised by OCRA, and hopefully the eventual winners will prove a good omen for Sven?s men. During the morning, the youngsters took part in a skills and coaching session where they could gain points both individually and for their team. During lunch, a World Cup quiz gained the teams more points with Argentina scoring maximum points. Finally, the afternoon saw a mini-World Cup tournament with each of the teams playing each other. England finished first, closely followed by Germany ? 1966 all over again! The prizes were presented to the winning team by Stuart Lord of OCRA with Matthew Doidge and Liam Alford being presented with an England football for their individual contribution to the day. All the children taking part went home with a certificate and an England sweatband.
