TAVISTOCK Short Mat Bowling Club played host on Saturday to their 2007 ?Open Tournament?. The annual competition involves each of the eight teams playing each other during the afternoon, with the winner decided on a points basis. Competing teams were Tavistock (A and B), Ivybridge, Bow, Bere Alston, Callington Phoenix, Saltash Wesley and Tothill. The Tavistock squad of David and Anne Summers, Marlene Paramor, George and Shirley Blackburn, Barry Chappell and Vic Stacey, won six of their games to emerge as tournament champions. With two points being awarded to each winning team Tavistock had ended the afternoon with 12 points and 44 shots. Tothill took second place with a 10 point total. Geoff Cork from the Tavistock club said: ?The afternoon was declared a great success with many thanks going to the local businesses who had sponsored the tournament with both cash and prizes and the Tavistock squad will now move on to enter the county competitions later in the year.?
