PUPILS at Okehampton Primary School have used their artistic skills to draw illustrations for a book about Dartmoor wildlife by Matt Parkins.

Recently, the author visited the children who helped to illustrate his guide book of fun walks around the moor.

A series of special workshops were held at the school in order to give some of the children the chance to draw some of Dartmoor’s animals and have them printed in the book, titled Adventurous Animals: Family Friendly Walks with Dartmoor’s Adventurous Animal.

The book is a joint project between local wildlife educator Matt Parkins and Visit Dartmoor, the tourism partnership for the Dartmoor area.

It contains a set of interesting short walks aimed at families from Devon or those visiting on holiday.

The guide book aims to take walkers to a range of wildlife hotspots and the children’s drawings will help to tell the stories of where the animals live.

The routes in the walking guide book pass through upland woodlands, over some rocky tors and along river valleys to allow people the chance to experience the life of wild moorland creatures.
