CHILDREN from Gulworthy and Lamerton Primary Schools have taken their physical education lessons to new heights last term, with weekly archery and mountain biking sessions, as well as hanging out on the junior high ropes tree surfers course at the Tamar Trails Centre.
Pupils were learning the new skills in place of their usual PE lessons thanks to a government sports premium grant.
Speaking about the initiative, headteacher Melody Nicholls said: ‘The children have absolutely loved the experience, they have come back to school beaming each week.
‘We’ve seen a significant improvement in their confidence in other subjects as a result, including English and maths, which has been incredibly rewarding for all concerned.’
