AIR Cadets from Tavistock (pictured) spent their Easter camp at RAF Uxbridge where they enjoyed a packed week of action, despite there being no flying at the station itself. Activities included lessons in fieldcraft with the RAF Regiment and a tour of nos 28 and 33 operational helicopter squadrons. Visits were made to the RAF Memorial at Runnymeade, the RAF museum at Hendon and the second world war underground operations room of HQ 11 Group used in the Battle of Britain. All cadets had a flight in a Grob Tutor aircraft at RAF Benson, some enjoying aerobatics. Leadership and initiative skills were put to the test on a low rope course, a night exercise and orienteering. They also took part in a presentation from the RAF school?s team where they had to make decisions as if they were the government facing an international crisis. Each day the cadets were able to compare their drill with that of the Queen?s Colour Sqadron RAF Regiment as they practised their famous continuity drill sequences on the parade square. Shooting, swimmimg and other sports made the camp complete. The local unit has vacancies for boys and girls over 13 years. Tel 612927 or 612743 for details.
