A STUDENT from Calstock is proving to be a dynamic designer after being recognised for her work by the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) and winning a South West competition to create a design for a Smart car.
Sarah Court, 20, who is studying for a BA (Hons) in printed textile design and surface pattern at Plymouth College of Art, won first prize in the competition recently by Mercedes Benz South West, to create new designs for the Smart Fortwo and Smart Forfour cars. As well as winning a sum of prize money, there are also plans for Sarah’s designs to be applied to two special edition smart cars in the South West.
She was also recognised by the SDC for her work after winning the Highly Commended award in the SDC’s 2017 International Design Competition.
Now, in her latest exhibition at the Plymouth College of Art degree show ‘Breaking Through’, Sarah has proven herself once again taking pride of place in the main gallery space with a luxurious king size bed — a result of her collaboration with globally-renowned bed manufacturer Vispring.
Focusing on the theme of waves and aquatic life, Sarah’s work in the show focuses on a collection of luxury interiors influenced by Japanese folklore, prints and patterns, as well as calligraphy and otherworldly seascapes, tidal rhythms, beautiful reefs, marine life and phenomena such as bioluminescence.
