Devon Dumplings v
Kelly College firsts
KELLY College won the toss but handed the initiative to the Dumplings with James McGahey and Joe Murphy bowling well.
Soon Kelly found themselves in disarray at 66 for 5. However, J Elliott batted sensibly and with the support of B Turner, took the score to 88 runs. It was headmaster Graham Hawley 'chinamen' that proved decisive, with him ending with three wickets for 32 off 10 overs while James McGahey picked up 3-30. For Kelly, J Elliott scored a well deserved 74 and B Turner's 47 was a vital and timely contribution.
The Dumplings batted well with a number of batsmen getting set but then getting themselves out. David Manning threatened briefly to destroy the Kelly bowling – having taken 14 runs from five balls, he was well caught at deep square leg. James McGahey then played some impressive strokes, well supported by the veteran Nigel Sawrey Cookson and the score began to rattle along. James was followed by father, John, who also played some polished drives before the Dumplings went on to win by two wickets.
Scores: Kelly College 194 all out. (J Elliott 74, B Turner 47, J McGahey 3 for 30. G Hawley 3 for 32). Devon Dumplings 195 for 8 (James McGahey 37, N Sawrey Cookson 30. John McGahey 30, P Smith 3 for 62.)
