IT was relief all round when the missing Duke of Bedford cup from the Tavistock Flower, Produce and Craft Show turned up.

The disappearance of the cup was reported to the police who appealed to the public for any information to help find it. But when the cup turned up there were a few red faces . . .

It turned out the previous winner — a committee member whose name will not be revealed to spare blushes — thought he had returned it with several other cups he had won. No-one at the show had noticed it was not with the others.

When he discovered the cup still at home several days later he rang the secretary in a panic — thinking he had returned a Bere Alston Gardening Club cup instead, which turned out not to be the case.

Happily the Tavistock club now has its cup back and the Bere Alston cup is safe and ready for the prize-giving at that club's show on Wednesday September 12.
