OVER 150 primary school pupils turned out at Duchy College Stoke Climsland to compete in the final race of this year’s Duchy College Performance Sport Cross-Country League.

Pupils from years three, four, five and six took part in one and two mile courses and represented Alturnun, Coads Green, Launceston Windmill, South Petherwin, Stoke Climsland, Trekenner and Tregadillett. The runners were collecting points for individual medals as well as the overall School Cross Country League trophy.

It has been a very competitive league with many of the runners gunning for the top three positions for each age category from race one.

Even with the superb weather the famous muddy runner course still lived up to its name. The determined runners trudged through bogs and negotiated river crossings on their demanding journey to the finish line.

This year the league was won by Stoke Climsland School, followed by Tregadillet in second place and Launceston Windmill in third.

Course co-ordinator for sport at Duchy College Ryan Le-Doux-Lucas said: ‘The organisation of the cross country league is well worth it and I would like to thank all of the runners, teachers and parents for their continued support with the cross-country and we look forward to seeing you in September for our fourth year of races.’

Team lead for sport at Duchy College Darren Evans said: ‘The cross country league is an amazing opportunity for local primary school students to come together and race competitively. I was impressed with the children’s motivation to compete in such challenging conditions.

‘Our level 3 sport students and NVQ sport instructors also gained some valuable hands on experience in setting up and helping to run this event.’
