AN 88-year-old man was taken to Derriford Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, following a road traffic accident at St David's Road in Tavistock.
Charles Stapeley was driving a Citroên which was in collision with a lamp-post and plunged down a bank, before coming to rest in the front wall of a nearby house.
Two Tavistock fire crews and an ambulance were called to the scene of the accident at 1.33pm, when they found Mr Stapeley trapped in the driver's seat of the vehicle.
His wife Betty had managed to free herself before their arrival, but her husband was cut free at approximately 2.10 pm.
He was described as suffering from head and neck injuries but was conscious and talking throughout the ordeal.
A structural engineer was called to assess damage to the house. The car has been left in place pending further safety checks.
