Devon & Exeter League
Premier Division
Okehampton Argyle 2
Thorverton 2
FORCED to make three changes because of injuries, Argyle were pleased to welcome back Graham Soby, making his first appearance this season, Adam Mortimer, returning from Clyst Rovers after a short spell in the higher division, and Mat King after being unavailable for a couple of weeks.
On paper this certainly looked to have strengthened the side and Argyle took an early lead in the fourth minute.
A good ball down the right flank found Mat King.
He cut in and shot for the bottom corner, only for the Thorverton keeper to make a fine save.
Unfortunately he could not hold the ball, and could do nothing to stop Mark Burdus, who was still on the ground after sliding in to meet the original cross, from poking in the loose ball from two yards.
In the 25th minute the Thorverton centre forward went on a jinking run towards goal and fired a shot past Neil Clift to level the scores.
Argyle regained the lead on the half hour, when Adam Mortimer was brought down in the penalty area when he looked odds on to score.
From the resulting penalty, James Williams managed to score, but he had to snap up the rebound after the keeper had made a fine save from his first shot.
Thorverton equalised for the second time in the first minute of the second half, their No 10 heading in a fine cross.
Both sides created chances to win the game, with Neil Agnew coming closest for Argyle when he hit the bar on the hour.
Good defending and further good saves kept the scores level with a draw probably a fair result at the end of the day.
The 1st XI has no fixture on Saturday, but the 2nd XI are home to Upottery, and the thirds home to Lapford, both kick-offs are at 2.30pm.
