TAVISTOCK-based Drake Training, in partnership with Duchy College and Bicton College, is celebrating a successful bid which has led to the launch of a vocational and management training programme aimed at the land-based sector.

Thanks to funding from the Learning and Skills Council, co-financed through the European Social Fund, the partners can offer new work-based learning opportunities for employees and the self-employed in small and medium-sized businesses across Devon.

Aimed at people aged 25 and over, the project has a wide scope and offers qualifications across a wide range of businesses, including agriculture, equine, horticulture, sport and leisure, rural tourism, animal care, environmental conservation and engineering. These can lead to the achievement of a National Vocational Qualification.

Liaison officers guide and support every step of the way, from the design of an individual learning plan to assessments in the workplace and financial help with training needs.

Although the project is aimed at people aged 25 and over, the partners appreciate the need to promote and encourage the employment of younger apprentices and will be in a position to offer wage subsidies.

If you work in any of the above businesses and would like further details call Joy Porteous at Drake Training, Tavistock on (01822) 810011.
