Teignmouth 17 Tavistock 36 TAVISTOCK bounced back from their poor performance against Okehampton the previous week to record a league and cup double over Teignmouth in the space of two weeks. But one disappointing aspect of their performance was that despite being 36-7 up after an hour Tavistock did not press on but allowed Teignmouth to score two tries in the last quarter. Tavistock started brightly and after 15 minutes opened the scoring with a try from centre Sam Smerdon. Tavistock lost full back David Goodspeed just after going in front and he was replaced by Andy Wright, making his first XV debut after joining the club during the summer. Teignmouth put Tavistock under pressure for the next 15 minutes but were repulsed with sound defence around the fringes and in midfield. Tavistock increased their lead when deep in his own half centre Neil Evans hacked on a loose Teignmouth pass and raced through to score. Josh Sutton added the conversion. Early in the second half Teignmouth reduced the arrears when Chris Tidman went over close to the posts and Dan Force converted. This spurred Tavistock and Neil Evans scored his second try, then fly half Gareth Lovell grabbed the fourth after he chipped over the Teignmouth defence and ran on to collect the ball and score, Gareth converted his own score. Tavistock continued to put on the pressure and forwards Andy Hunt and Jake Phillips both put in some bruising runs. They increased their lead when hooker Ben Sutton fed replacement Gavin Boak who scored with virtually his first touch of the game. Tavistock completed the scoring with a try from Andy Wright converted by Alex Moy. From there on Tavistock seemed to lose their shape and concentration and conceded two tries both scored by Lawrence Coen. However this was too little too late for Teignmouth and Tavistock ran out comfortable winners. This weekend sees Tavistock entertain Wellington in the Cornwall and Devon League, kick off 3pm.
