MEAVY Parish Hall filled with colour and laughter for the garden society?s flower show. Members produced a variety of splendid entries for the 16 classes, despite tough growing conditions in July. Entries for dahlias and gladioli doubled, while vegetables and hanging baskets also needed extra accommodation. Doris Potter at the raffle, and Avril Back?s team serving teas and cakes, were all kept busy by almost 150 visitors. Tim Lambie provided assistance and expertise in computerising the combination of votes of each visitor to select winning entries. Guest of honour Margaret Chappell presented the trophies and certificates. The Gordon Cross Trophy, awarded on a points system taking account of the placings of the three winners in each class, was won by Joyce Williams, with Pauline Hamilton-Leggett just one point behind. Thanking everyone who had worked so hard to ensure the smooth running of the afternoon, chairman Douglas Henderson particularly praised Brenda Burt as show secretary for her organisation, and hard work making the green table drapes, which had give a professional look to the hall.
