BERE Alston Trekkers (BATs) runner Dotty Allan is busy training for her third London Marathon which takes place on April 26.

Dotty, who is club chair and coach for BATs and club coach at Tavistock Athletic Club, has worked hard since October in preparation for the event.

Training has included running in the ice, rain, wind and sunshine and has seen her competing in tough races such as the Duchy 20 Miler. But with two weeks training still to go, the coming days will see the longest training runs with this week seeing her undertake a 22-mile run in Padstow.

Dotty's training has been made easier by her fellow marathon training buddies whom she thanked for their support: Jemma Sharman, David Twine, Rebecca Sargeant, Simon Griffiths and Chris Baab and to those runners who turn up every week in all weathers to run as support for the group, Sheila and Andy Houghton and Ray Bennett.

Although gaining a successful ballot place, Dotty has chosen to raise money for the NSPCC.  Part of her fundraising has included the BATs Big Breakfast which raised £460.

Dotty expressed thanks to all BATs and TAC members for their help and donations, staff at West Devon Borough Council who have also given donations and to all the villagers who came and tucked in to a breakfast on the day.

She also like to say a special thank you to her other running buddie, her Jack Russell, Bilbo, and to her number one supporter who she says is the air in her lungs at the top of every hill and the tarmac beneath her feet — her son George.
