MASTER chef Peter Gorton from the renowned Horn of Plenty restaurant at Gulworthy was completely taken aback when a woman from London donated her first week's pension to his London Flora Marathon fundraiser for Children's Hospice South West's Precious Lives Appeal. This donation brings his total from his successful marathon run to around £3,000 — and sponsorship money is still pouring in. Peter said: 'I am so thankful to all those people who sponsored me. 'This was my first ever marathon, in fact it was my first run of any kind, so it was the thought of making a lot of money to help build the new hospice that kept me going all 26 miles.' Peter was fortunate to have the support of Frank Elford Sports in Plymouth, which provided him with all the advice and support he needed, and of Saucony, which kitted him out for the race and his training. Peter said as a novice runner the advice from the staff at Frank Elford was invaluable. That, and having the correct kit, was key to his finishing the marathon. Peter is still able to accept sponsorship if anyone would like to contribute to his total. Send donations to the Horn of Plenty, Gulworthy, Tavistock PL19 8JD, or donate online at http://www.justgiving.com/petergorton">www.justgiving.com/petergorton and help build a new Children's Hospice. The Precious Lives Appeal to build a new children's hospice for Plymouth and Cornwall was launched in September 2007 and has raised more than £700,000 towards the target of £5-million to date. Peter has just finished starring in Little Chefs, a six-part ITV programme which airs on August 10.
