WORLD famous trombonist Don Lusher is set to take West Devon by storm when he tops the bill at the Okehampton Argyle F C's 75th anniversary concert.
Support at the event — at Fairplace Church, Okehampton on Saturday, November 24 — will be provided by Okehampton College Big Band.
Don was lead trombone with the Ted Heath Big Band for nine years and did several coast to coast tours of America. He has played with numerous celebrated big bands and topped many musical polls.
Don has often toured with big name artists including Frank Sinatra. He regularly appears as guest soloist with brass bands, wind bands, jazz bands and big bands.
In July 2000 the Worshipful Company of Musicians presented him with the Jazz Medal for his distinguished career in jazz.
Okehampton College (little) Big Band was founded in 1994 to fulfill the need for pupils to explore the medium of jazz in all its glory.
In the ensuing years they have played numerous functions within the school and in the community.
Their repertoire is diverse playing arrangements of such jazz greats as Duke Ellington and Count Basie through to contemporary musicians like Brian Setzer, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Earth, Wind and Fire.
Tickets for the concert — £6 each including light refreshments — are available from Millennium Music, The Arcade, Okehampton (01837) 659249.
