STAFF and volunteers at Margaret Green Animal Rescue's (MGAR) Wingletang centre near Tavistock are preparing for their annual companion dog show which is to be held this Sunday (June 7).

The fun will begin at 11am with the chance to enter one of the 18 dog show classes. From pedigree classes to novelty classes such as 'waggiest tail' and 'best MGAR rescue' there really is something for every dog. Dogs that have been rehomed from Margaret Green also have the chance to qualify for Buckham Fair on the day.

The charity has organised a full programme of stalls, including a raffle and tombola, and visitors can also enjoy something from the barbecue or refreshments stand.

The dog show is the biggest fundraising event in the centre's calendar — every penny raised will go directly back into caring for more than 1,200 animals each year who have been rescued from abuse or neglect, have been abandoned or whose owners can no longer look after them.

Entry to the event, at the rescue centre on the Brentor road from Tavistock, is £1.50 for adults and 50p for children (aged 12 and under). MGAR has been rescuing and rehoming animals in Devon and Dorset since 1965.

The dog show will raise much needed funds in this, the charity's 50th anniversary year.
