DURING the second world war Devon was the most militarised county in England. This was particularly so just before D-Day in the summer of 1944 when every town and village was bursting with American troops preparing to take part in the liberation of occupied Europe.
A West Country film company is now making a film about 'Devon at War' and would like to hear from anyone who has personal memories from those dark days.
Perhaps you remember the Blitz on Plymouth, the Baedeker Raids on Exeter, the American Assault Training Centre in the north of the county around Woolacombe, or the battle training area around Slapton Sands in the south.
If you have any memories, photographs or other information, and would like to be interviewed in the film, in the first instance please write to Henry Buckton, PO Box 2770, Glastonbury, Somerset BA6 9XD, or email [email protected]">[email protected]
